A Productive Light Cavalry: My Experience on Macbook Air M1
Appearance
The wedge design is really appealing.
It is still small, light, and thin.
The weight is 1.3 kg, moderately heavy. There are ultra-light laptops weighing less than 1 kg, but they are too expensive.
Screen
2K screen.
Touchpad
It's indeed very useful, eliminating the need for a mouse when traveling.
The touchpad of Windows laptops is hard to describe; not sure how the new models will perform.
Battery Life: A Major Selling Point
The battery life of the MacBook Air M1 is impressive. It can last for more than half a day without any issues.
In comparison, many Windows laptops often struggle to match its battery life. Even under the same conditions, the battery of Windows laptops drains faster, requiring frequent charging.
Commonly referred to as "hanging a urine bag" 🤣.
Performance
No lag, at least for writing and browsing the web.
No lag even when coding and using an IDE.
I'm not too worried about the issue of excessive writing to the hard drive. If it wears out, I'll replace it with a new one, as it has already exceeded expectations in terms of value.
After using it for a long time, I actually forgot about the fan's existence, only remembering that computers need cooling when using Windows laptops 🤣.
The fanless design not only makes the machine run quieter but also reduces the hassle of cleaning and maintenance. In contrast, many Windows laptops become very noisy and hot when handling heavy tasks.
This feature is especially important when working in a quiet library.
Summary
I've been using it for over three years. The new MBA is nice, but the M1 is good enough.
After prolonged use, the MacBook Air M1 still maintains its initial smoothness and high performance.
